Key Dates and Reminders for Year 11 Students

We would like to update you with some key information relevant to the exams, but also to take this opportunity to wish your child every success over the coming weeks. As a year group, I have been very impressed by the commitment and resilience they have shown in recent weeks, and look forward to seeing their continued focus after the Easter break.

Year 11 Examination Entries – Summer 2024

Students have been issued with their summer exam timetables which detail the subjects for which they will be sitting exams/assessments in and gives them the dates/times of each exam. Please note personal details must show legal names, as stated on your child’s birth certificate and/or passport.  Qualification certificates will be printed with the same name as the one that appears at the top of their exam timetable.

Examinations for students will, in some cases, run to Thursday 20 June 2024 but all students must remain available until 26 June which is the last exam contingency day.

I need to mention some very important points relating to examinations:

  • For the examinations, students are required to comply with the academy’s uniform rules in terms of dress and appearance. Failure to comply with this could result in your child being refused entry to the examination room.
  • Please ensure your child knows the exact dates and times of all their examinations. All personal items go in the container.
  • All the examination boards are insistent that the mere possession of a mobile phone/electronic device or smart watch/watch by candidates in the examination room is grounds for disqualification. Please ensure that your child does not carry a mobile phone, or any other communications or data-storage device into the examination room.
  • Should your child not meet our expectations in terms of conduct or attendance to the exams we will reserve the right to charge you fully for the cost of the administration of the exams which can vary from £45 – £100 per paper.

Your child should contact Mrs Fulcher, who is the academy’s examination officer, if in any doubt or they have any exam questions (anna.fulcher@attrust.org.uk) or call in at the Exams Office in B Corridor.

By now, students should have created a revision timetable to help ensure that they are preparing for their exams. Students have also been attending period 6 revision sessions after school and have had access to a wealth of resources on OneDrive and GCSEpod for some time.

Easter Holiday Revision

Please see below the schedule of revision sessions that will be running during the Easter holidays.

No Study Leave

At Westbourne Academy, we are keen to ensure that all of our students reach their potential. It is for this reason that we prefer students to remain in school to benefit from the knowledge and experience of their teachers. We will however, collapse timetables to make them more bespoke for the students as the weeks go on.

Leavers assembly Tuesday 18 June

Students will be invited to take part in the annual leavers assembly as long as they show the qualities we expect of them over the coming weeks. More information will be sent nearer the time.

Thorpe Park 2024

This has been booked for Friday 21 June. It is a memorable way of burning-off steam after the stressful time of exams, and spending a day with friends to make lasting memories. Students will receive their invites next term as long as they have and continue to show good attendance, punctuality, effort and behaviour.

Prom 2024

This years Prom is to be held on Thursday 27 June at All Manor of events in Henley. Whilst we look forward to this event, we must point out that each child’s attendance, behaviour and attitude to work will be considered before we will confirm their place. Therefore, please encourage your child to do the right thing to ensure that they don’t miss out.

Exam Results Day

Students will be able to collect their exam results on Thursday 22 August between 10.00am – 12.00 noon. As in previous years, we will be taking photographs of students on results day and these are likely to be used in marketing material, press releases and on our website. It is also possible that a representative from the local press will be here on the day as part of their coverage of Suffolk schools.

Contact Details

Finally, if you have recently changed your contact details, especially your mobile telephone number, please remember to let us know so that we have a means of contacting you after your child leaves the academy. Text messages are often sent to parents when we have information to communicate to either large groups of students or to individuals.

If you have any questions relating to any of the information above then please do not hesitate to contact me.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and, at the same time, wish your child all the very best with their exams and as they move on to the next stage of their life, be it in further education, training or on an apprenticeship.

Regards

Mr R Hawkes
