Intent:
- We recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles and making a positive impact on physical, mental and social health.
- We strive to inspire our students through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all.
- Students are provided with high quality PE and sport provision across a range of activities, not only as a participant but in leadership roles such as a coach or official.
- All students will have the opportunity to participate in our extensive extra-curricular programme and have the opportunity to represent the Academy in a variety of team and individual sports throughout the year.
- Students can opt for a qualification that builds on learning from Key Stage 3 for those who may wish to explore a vocational route within Physical Education throughout Key Stage 4

Examination Board:
Pearson BTEC Tech Award 1/2 in Sport: 40% written exam and 60% assessment
Component 1 – 30%: Internal assessment over 5 hours of supervised sessions – Preparing participants to take part in sport and PE
Component 2 – 30%: Internal assessment over 4 hours of supervised sessions – Taking part and improving other participants’ sporting performance
Component 3 Written Exam 1h30 – 40%: Developing fitness to improve other particpants’ performance in sport and physical activity.
Where Physical Education can take you:
Physical education explicitly teaches the necessary knowledge and skills for working with and relating to others, and provides the learning opportunities to develop these skills. It enables the development of leadership and teamwork skills and encourages students to transfer knowledge to other learning areas. A qualification in PE can open up a range of career opportunities including: sports development, sports coaching, physiotherapy, sports journalism, personal training or becoming one of the next generation of PE teachers. As a committed and enthusiastic sports performer you will be able to apply various theoretical concepts
that enhance your appreciation of your activity. Physical Education develops the transferable skills and key skills that employers are looking for and can lead to a wide variety of employment opportunities.
