Sent to parents and carers of particpating Year 11 Geography classes on 11/09/25

Year 11 Geography Exam Field Trip: Thursday 25 September 2025

Classes: 11A and 11C

As you aware, your child opted to study GCSE Geography in Key Stage 4 and part of their final exam involves an examination of fieldwork skills.  As a result, attendance on two field trips is compulsory. Our visit to the Olympic Park London in June counted as one of the fieldwork experiences.  The second will be to a coastal area, with Felixstowe being the chosen location. We will be running two trips over two dates in order to accommodate all Y11 Geography classes. Your child’s class will be going on Thursday 25 September.

The purpose of this trip is to investigate the development of the areas, investigate erosion and coastal processes and practice fieldwork skills. In an attempt an attempt to cover the cost of the coaches, we are requesting a voluntary payment of £8.

Students will not need to wear academy uniform but they will need suitable clothing and footwear for a day’s fieldwork; preferably something that is waterproof along with a packed lunch and suitable refreshment for the duration. Students will need to bring a backpack in which to store they belongings, food and drink.

Payment must be made online through your child’s School Money account no later than Friday 19 September.  The option to pay will appear within the next 48 hours. You will receive a separate email asking you to give parental consent via our trip management system, Evolve. We cannot accept cash payments at school. If you do not yet have a MCAS account, please email self-sign-up for one using the instructions here:

MyChildatSchool – Westbourne Academy

We will be travelling by coach, departing the academy promptly at 9.00am, your child should attend school at 8.15-8:30am as usual and make their way to the main hall at 8:30am. We anticipate arriving back at the academy in time for the end of the day at 3.00pm.

We will be carrying a first aid kit and at least one member of staff accompanying the visit is a qualified first aider. Any student who would normally receive a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch (sandwich and cookie) on the day provided this is pre-ordered on the separate Evolve consent that will be sent to you. This visit is fully covered by the academy’s insurance policy with the Department for Education.  If you have any questions with regards to the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me.
