Year 10 Taster Day at Suffolk One
Tuesday 8 July 2025 (09:15 – 14:30)
Your child has chosen to have a taster day at Suffolk ONE on the above date.
The aim of the day is to give a holistic insight into what it would be like to attend post-16 education and take part in a variety of lessons throughout the day. They will get to experience life as a student, which will help them with their post-16 choices. Students will be requested to choose the workshops/taster sessions that they would like to experience.
The college have requested that students need to wear their academy uniform (jumpers are optional during the summer term) and will need to bring a change of clothes if they have opted for a sporting session. They will also need to take a backpack for their belongings and a pencil case as well as a packed lunch or money on a debit card to buy lunch (Suffolk One is cashless). Students who are eligible for a free school meal will be provided with a pack lunch from our Food Hall provided it is requested in advance on the Evolve consent form that will follow shortly.
Students will need to make their own way to and from Suffolk One (the 18A bus route travels through the estate and goes direct to Suffolk One – Norbridge club @ 08.33 or Ulster Avenue @ 08:58 arrives at Suffolk One for 09:18). This helps encourage independence and personal development. Students must report to the Westbourne Academy teachers at 9:15 for registration purposes (at the main entrance to Suffolk One). They will be dismissed at approximately 14:30 to make their own way home. The emergency contact on the day will be myself (mobile 07781-921009).
When making visits of this nature, our students are acting as ambassadors for the academy and their future selves. On the basis they are hoping to apply for a post-16 course, we expect them to act in a mature and sensible way. Throughout the day, students will be supervised by staff from the academy and the college. In the event a student’s attitude or conduct falls below our usual expectations, we reserve the right to send the student home immediately.
In order for your child to attend the taster day, we are collecting parental consent as well as emergency contact details and medical information through Evolve (you will shortly receive an email with a link to the form).
Please ensure consent is made no later than Friday 27 June 2025. If you require a paper copy of the form, please ask your child to see me at school.
