Suffolk Youth Climate Conference

Wednesday 2 July 2025

Your child is invited to take part in the above offsite educational activity which is being hosted by Suffolk One on Wednesday 2 July. They have been chosen due to their progress and engagement in Geography this academic year. It will be a day of discussions, workshops, networking and mutual-learning about all things climate change and tackling the climate emergency, with Steve Backshall as the Keynote Speaker. Students are able to choose to attend workshops on topics such as Video Games and Climate Change; Electric Cars; Save Our Oceans and many more!

There will be no cost to parents and carers as this trip is a reward trip for these students and any associated costs have been funded by the academy. Students will not need to wear their academy uniform and transport will be provided to and from Suffolk One in normal school hours.

Below is a summary of our itinerary:

08:30     Students to report to me in the food hall for pre-trip registration

08:35     Board the academy minibus at the front of school

08:40     Depart from Westbourne Academy for onward travel to Suffolk One

08:55     Arrive at Suffolk One

09:00     Welcome and registration at the conference

Break and Lunch will take place at the allotted times

(students will need to bring a packed lunch and bottled water/juice to drink)

15:00     Depart from the venue and return to school by minibus

15:30     Approximate arrival back at school, students dismissed/collected by parents

Students will need to bring a packed lunch as well as a reusable water bottle. Any student who would normally receive a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch on the day provided this is ordered in advance on the Evolve consent form.

Students may bring their mobile phones to communicate with parents/carers on the return journey and to take photographs at the venue. Any personal effects or valuables brought to school or brought on trips remain the responsibility of students if they are lost, stolen or damaged.  Mobile phones will be needed at the venue in order to complete a survey on Slido. We recommend that students bring a backpack or school bag in which to keep their personal belongings on the day.

This visit is fully covered by the academy’s insurance policy for educational visits and journeys (with the Department for Education).

You will shortly receive a separate email from Evolve, our trip management system. This will ask you to give consent for your child to participate and ask for details of any illnesses or medication your child requires.  Please check your junk and spam inboxes if you have not received the email by 27 June, the deadline for consent.

I hope that you agree that this is a fantastic opportunity for our students. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Mr K Jackson
