Safeguarding Bulletin

I am writing to emphasise a vital aspect of your role as a parent or guardian: maintaining open and effective communication with the academy regarding your child’s well-being, behaviour, and safety. It has come to our attention that some parents have blocked the academy’s phone number, which raises serious concerns regarding the ability to ensure the safeguarding of your child.

At Westbourne Academy, safeguarding is at the core of everything we do. As set out in the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) framework, we have a legal duty to work closely with parents to ensure that every child is safe, well-cared for, and supported. A crucial part of fulfilling this duty is our ability to reach you promptly when issues arise, particularly when they relate to your child’s behaviour or well-being.

To ensure the best outcomes for your child, please consider the following:

  • schools are legally obligated to take action if parents are consistently uncontactable
  • schools are required to have multiple contact points for each student in case of emergencies
  • in situations where we cannot contact you and If concerns arise, the school can involve local authorities, children’s services, or the police.

As a parent or carer, it is your responsibility to engage with the academy and support us in managing any issues related to your child’s behaviour or well-being. This partnership is essential for helping your child overcome challenges, stay on track, and thrive both academically and personally. Ensuring that we can reach you in emergencies or when concerns arise is crucial to safeguarding your child.

We kindly ask that you check your phone settings to make sure the academy’s number is not blocked on any devices. If your contact details have changed recently, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school office on wes-office@attrust.org.uk and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your ongoing commitment to supporting your child’s education, behaviour and well-being.

Kind regards

Mr M Higgon

Principal
