Introduction to Head of Year 9 & Assistant Head of Year
I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Head of Year 9 and Miss Thomas-Astley as the Assistant Head of Year 9. As we work together to support your child’s growth, I want to emphasize the importance of two key areas that I believe are the foundations for their success: behaviour and attendance.
Our mission is to ensure that all students in the year group not only achieve their academic goals but also develop the character, discipline, and responsibility that will serve them both in school and beyond. A positive and respectful attitude towards learning, peers, and staff is essential, and we will be focusing on promoting a culture of respect, kindness, and accountability in every aspect of school life.
Equally important is consistent attendance. Regular attendance is a key factor in academic success, and we will be working closely with students and families to support good attendance habits. We will take a proactive approach to address any barriers to attendance, ensuring every student has the opportunity to fully engage in their education and make the most of the year ahead.
Together, by fostering positive behaviour and supporting excellent attendance, we can help all students reach their full potential and contribute to a positive, thriving school community.
For the remainder of Year 9, moving forwards into Year 10, students have an exciting year to look forward to. Having just selected their pathway options they will be moving into Year 10 and Key Stage 4. In Year 10, students will be able to choose Post-16 taster days, giving them ideas and possibilities for their future after leaving Westbourne Academy. I am excited to work with students at this crucial time.
Below is a list of the respective Year 9 tutor groups as well as their Principal Tutors and tutor bases. Staff who will be acting as Associate Tutors for Year 9 are currently being assigned to tutor groups for the next half term and this information will follow as and when it is confirmed.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to working with you in partnership to ensure that your child has a successful and fulfilling time at Westbourne Academy.
Kind regards
