Year 10 Taster Day at Suffolk New College

Wednesday 25 June 2025 (8.50am – 2.30pm)

Your child has chosen to have a taster day at Suffolk New College on Wednesday 25 June.   Students will of course be able to attend taster sessions and open days at other colleges and sixth forms throughout the next academic year, during the evenings and at weekends.

The aim of the day is to give a holistic insight into what it would be like to attend post-16 education and take part in a variety of lessons throughout the day.  They will get to experience life as a student, which will help them with their post-16 choices.  Students will also get to choose the workshops/taster sessions that they would like to experience.

The college have requested that students need to wear their academy uniform (jumpers are optional during the summer term) and will need to take a backpack for their belongings and a pencil case as well as a packed lunch or money to buy lunch. Students who are eligible for a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch from our Food Hall provided it is requested in advance on the Evolve consent form.

Depending upon the workshops chosen, students will be given protective clothing to cover their uniform if necessary. May I also remind you that any valuables taken remain the responsibility of the student.

Students will also need to make their own way to and from Suffolk New College. This helps encourage independence and personal development.  They will need to report to me at 8:50 for registration purposes (this will be at the main entrance to the college). All students will then be dismissed at 14:30 to make their own way home. The emergency contact on the day will be me (mobile 07781-921009).

When making visits of this nature, our students are acting as ambassadors for the academy and their future selves.  On the basis they are hoping to apply for a post-16 course, we expect them to act in a mature and sensible way.  Throughout the day, students will be supervised by staff from the academy and the college.  In the event that a student’s attitude or conduct falls below our expectations, we reserve the right to send the student home immediately.

In order for your child to attend the taster day, we are collecting parental consent as well as emergency contact details and medical information through Evolve (you will shortly receive an email with a link to the form).

Please ensure consent is made no later than Friday 20 June 2025. If you require a paper copy of the form, please ask your child to see me at school.
