Safeguarding Bulletin
This week in assemblies, we spoke with students about creating a safe, respectful school community. The focus was on three key areas:
[1] Unkindness
We discussed how unkind behaviour is not always obvious and can include:
- Exclusion or isolation
- Hurtful comments disguised as jokes
- Behaviour online, including messages and group chats
Students were reminded that even small acts of unkindness can have a significant impact, and that everyone has a role in promoting kindness and respect.
[2] Trusted Adults
We reinforced the message that students should never feel they have to deal with concerns on their own. Students were reminded that trusted adults in school include:
- Form tutors
- Assistant head of year
- Head of year
- Class teacher
- Support staff
- Teaching assistants
- Food hall staff
We emphasised that speaking to an adult is not about getting someone into trouble, but about keeping themselves and others safe.
[3] The SHARP Reporting System
Students were also reminded about our SHARP system, which provides a way to report concerns such as:
- Unkindness or bullying
- Online issues
- Harassment
- Worries about their own or someone else’s safety
SHARP can be used to report concerns for themselves or for others. All reports received on SHARP are reviewed carefully by trained staff. Parents, carers and students can find the hyplerlink for SHARP on our website here under students:
How Parents and Carers Can Support
You can help reinforce these messages by:
- Encouraging open conversations at home
- Reminding students that it is always okay to speak up
- Supporting them to contact a trusted adult or use SHARP if something doesn’t feel right
Our aim is to ensure that every student feels safe, listened to, and supported.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
