Helping our Families
We understand that the times we are currently living in are both uncertain and challenging. With the cost of living crisis and rising household bills, we are all being hit in the pocket and facing cutbacks. As an academy, we are looking at ways in which we can get through the crisis together. There are several ways in which our academy or Suffolk County Council our local authority may be able to help.
Have you applied to Suffolk County Council for Free School meals?
If you believe that you meet the following criteria, your child may be entitled to free school meals, which will ensure that your child has a daily allowance of £2.41 currently, to purchase food in our food hall.
Additionally, for those who sign up to this successfully, we will look to provide a school jumper or “Oodie” to help your child stay warm.
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit but no element of Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenues & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
- If you are supported under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Working Tax Credit during the four-week period immediately after your employment finishes or after you start to work fewer hours per week
- Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400 (£616.67 per month), as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
Please note you will be applying to Suffolk County Council for this and not directly to the academy. Suffolk County Council’s advice line is 0345 606 6067, or you can apply online here.
Breakfast Club
We provide bagels as part of our breakfast club offer. These are free of charge for students on a first come, first served basis in the Library before school between 08.15 – 08.25.
Academy Uniform
In exceptional circumstances, there is funding available for us to support with the purchase of academy uniform. Please contact the appropriate Head of House to apply for this.

Equipment
At the start of Year 7, all students are provided with all of the basic stationery that they need for lessons so that they can be prepared for learning. They should then be accountable for these items. Replacements can be purchased through School Money at a discounted rate. Please communicate with your child’s form tutor if there are any issues with this.
Laptops for Loan
We have a limited supply of laptops which can be loaned to students, particularly in Year 10 and 11 for completing school work and home learning. If your child would benefit from this, then please let me know and I will ensure it is organised.
Revision Guides
All Year 11 students are provided with fully-funded subject revision guides that they need to support them to prepare for their exams.
Trips and Visits
Trips are an important part of your child’s educational experience and we wouldn’t want them to miss out due to cost. Where possible, we already partly subsidise the cost for a number of trips for our students. However, if you contact the trip leader, they will explore whether additional funds can be made available to ensure your child enjoys the same opportunity as others.
Tuesday Drop-in Clinic
Mrs Hanson and Mrs Graziani are available every Tuesday to support any parents and carers who would like help applying for free school meals or accessing academy systems such as Satchel One or School Money. Should you wish to access this service, please drop-in to reception between 09.30-10.30 on a Tuesday. Please bring with you your National Insurance number or National Asylum Support service number if appropriate.
Uniform and Equipment Shop
We would like to launch our own pre-loved Uniform shop where you can trade suitable items that your child has grown out of for items donated by others, or purchase items at a discounted price. You will also be able to purchase stationery at a discounted price. This will be open on a monthly basis starting on Monday 5 December 2022 at 15:00 – 17:00.
Westbourne Community Hub
The Westbourne Community Hub will be open on a monthly basis from Monday 5 December. You will be able to access the school hall from 15:00 – 17:00 for hot drinks and refreshments; opportunity to access advice; access the uniform shop; pick up any sanitary products needed; and for £2 collect a bag of food. There will also be opportunities to pick up books and games etc. If you have anything to donate, please leave donations in reception. Further information to follow.
Please email me if we can be of any more support.
