Dora Love Prize 2026

Year 9 Visit to The Hold Archives, Ipswich

Wednesday 28 January 2026 (09:00-15:00)

The History team have organised a trip for a group of Year 9 students to attend the launch event of the Dora Love Prize at The Hold Archives, University of Suffolk in Ipswich on Wednesday 28 January 2026. The Dora Love Prize, named after Holocaust survivor and educator Dora Rabinowitz Love, is an annual school prize informed by the Holocaust. It gives secondary school students the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust in a way that encourages them to have the confidence to make positive changes in the world around them.

Students will take part in a series of history, art and/or drama workshops and hear from a second-generation Holocaust survivor. They will then use their learning to support other students at Westbourne to develop a campaign which challenges hatred and discrimination. The Prize takes a broad, inclusive approach, incorporating the stories and experiences of all groups persecuted, marginalised and murdered by the Nazis and all that suffer discrimination, marginalisation or persecution today because of their identity.

On the day, students will need to meet Miss Ellis by the ‘question mark’ sculpture outside the University of Suffolk at 09:00. They will also need either permission to leave The Hold at 15:00 to make their own way home or be collected by a parent/carer. Students will need to bring a packed lunch as well as a reusable water bottle. Any personal effects or valuables brought to school or brought on trips remain the responsibility of students if they are lost, stolen or damaged. Students will need to wear their full academy uniform please and bring a backpack in which to hold their belongings and lunch.

Any student who would normally receive a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch on the day provided this is requested in advance.  This visit is fully covered by the academy’s insurance policy. A separate email from Evolve, the academy’s trip planning system, will be sent out in the New Year for you to confirm these details and give consent for the trip.  There are no costs associated with this visit.

In the meantime, if there is anything else you wish to know about this trip, please contact either one of us at school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind Regards
