Re: Temporary Adjustment to School Uniform – Amber Heat Warning

I am writing to inform you of a temporary adjustment to our school uniform expectations for the week commencing Monday, 22 June 2026 through to Friday, 26 June 2026 inclusive.

This decision has been made in response to the Amber Heat Warning issued for our region, with temperatures forecast to rise into the high 20s and exceed 30°C in Ipswich, with expected highs of 32°C on Wednesday and Friday at the time of writing.

To support the comfort, safety, and wellbeing of all students during this period of extreme heat, students will be permitted to attend school wearing their full, correct school PE kit in place of their usual uniform for the entire week. This must consist of the official school PE shorts and PE top. Students who choose to continue to wear their normal uniform may remove their tie.

Please note the following important expectations:

– Leggings: Leggings are not permitted under this temporary arrangement; students must wear school PE shorts.

– Official Kit Only: Students must wear the official school PE uniform without variation. Any student arriving in non-compliant clothing will be removed from lessons and parents will be contacted to bring the correct uniform to school. I would appreciate your support in ensuring this does not occur.

– Hydration and Sun Protection: Students should bring a refillable water bottle each day. It is not practical for students to leave lessons to refill bottles, so these should be filled before school, at break and lunchtime. Please ensure your child arrives at school with sun cream already applied and consider providing a hat or cap for use during outdoor periods. These will need to be removed inside the building.

– Physical Activity: Students will be encouraged to act sensibly, avoiding excessive physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day.  We will open the Main Hall at break and lunch times to provide more space out of the sun. The 3G pitch will be closed at lunchtime and ball games will be temporarily restricted.

These are short-term measures in response to the current heat warning. Normal uniform expectations will resume following this period.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all students during these conditions.

Kind Regards

Mr M Higgon

Principal
