Year 9 Students Explore the Future of Robotics and AI
Students in 9y/Sc1 recently took part in an exciting webinar hosted by the National Robotarium, where they learned about the fascinating world of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
During the webinar, students discovered how robots are being used in areas such as healthcare, manufacturing, and environmental protection. Experts explained how AI helps machines learn, make decisions, and solve problems, giving students an insight into technologies that are shaping the future.
Following the webinar, students entered a competition that challenged them to think creatively about how robotics and AI could be used to improve everyday life. The competition encouraged teamwork, innovation, and problem-solving skills, with students developing a range of imaginative ideas.
The experience was both educational and inspiring, helping students to understand the growing importance of STEM subjects and the exciting career opportunities available in robotics and AI. Everyone who took part represented the school brilliantly and should be proud of their enthusiasm and creativity.
Year 9 student, Max, commented: “It was really interesting and made me think about how robots could be used in the future”
Year 9 student, Malen, said: “I really enjoyed interacting with Ameca, the AI robot. It even managed show some impressive dance moves!”
Amongst the competition entries were ideas for a ‘robotic Squid that defends coral reefs from invasive species’, ‘MARIS the Shark robot to help clear the oceans of microplastics’ and ‘a robot/AI system for the medical profession to assist in allocating appointments based on severity and cost’.
