MENACWY+DTP Vaccinations

Thursday 7 March 2024

Below please find a link to the letter from NHS England regarding their visit to Westbourne on Thursday 7 March 2024.

In line with the National Immunisation Programme, the Community School Aged Immunisation Service offers Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio and Meningococcal ACWY vaccinations to all pupils in Year 9. It may also be offered to older students who missed the vaccinations.

Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (3 in 1 teenage booster)

This booster dose is important to ensure a young person’s continuing immunity and protection against these diseases. University, College and future employers increasingly ask for evidence of this vaccination.

Meningococcal ACWY

Meningococcal ACWY vaccination helps to protect your child against 4 types of meningococcal bacteria (groups A, C, W, and Y) that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) and septicaemia (blood poisoning). Cases of meningococcal W disease in England have increased significantly in recent years.”

MenACWY DTP 2023 24 Parent WA

As a parent with parental responsibility for your child, you must either complete the NHS online consent as detailed in the above letter or refuse the vaccine – choose the option ‘I do not consent’.

On the day, the nurses will ask to see all students who are missing this vaccination and for whom they have not received any response at all.

All queries regarding the vaccinations on 7 March should be made direct to the nursing team on 0300 555 5055 option 3.  The NHS consent portal will close on 7 March at 7.00am. If you cannot access the portal from your device, please contact them by phone.

Your child will be collected from lesson by a member of staff to meet with the nurses in the library on Monday 7 March during lessons 1 to 5.
