Year 10 Maths Enrichment Trip: Thursday 30 June 2022 – University of Essex
Your child has been chosen to participate in a Maths enrichment day in University of Essex in Colchester on Thursday 30 June 2022.
The purpose of the visit is for invited students to enjoy a day of stimulating mathematical talks and activities designed to help them see the usefulness and fun of maths beyond the curriculum. It will provide information about maths courses available and will hopefully encourage students to consider choosing maths A level or core maths at post-16.
Here is the itinerary for the day:
08:25 Students arrive at school and report to me in the food hall for registration
08:20 – 08:30 Depart by academy minibus with me and Mr Pashler
09:15 – 09:45 Arrival and registration at the venue
09:45 – 10:15 Opening talk – Why Study Maths?

and find out about student life
13:45 – 14:45 Maths in the Fourth Dimension – Alex Partner
15:00 Depart for return journey to school
15:30 Approximate arrival back at school
Students will need to wear academy uniform and bring a packed lunch. Jumpers are not required as warm weather rules apply this term. This is a free trip there will be no cost to parents.
We will be travelling by minibus, departing the academy promptly at 08:20. We anticipate arriving back at the academy at approximately 15:30 subject to traffic from Colchester. You will need to collect your child at this time unless they are able to make their own way home. On the day, students will need to arrive at school for 08:20 and report to me in the food hall for registration purposes and confirmation of trip expectations and safety advice.
We will be carrying a first aid kit and at least one member of staff accompanying the visit is a qualified first aider. Any student who would normally receive a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch (sandwich, drink, cookie biscuit) on the day provided this is pre-ordered on the parental consent form. This visit is fully covered by the academy’s insurance policy (ZURICH Insurance).
I hope that your child will join us on this unique opportunity for students. Please give parental consent for them to be out of school via our online MS Form – please follow the link below:
If you have any questions with regards to the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me at school by email and I will respond as soon as I can.
