Sent to parents and carers on 5/12/25

Weekly Bulletin for Friday 5 December 2025

On Thursday 4 December, we were fortunate enough to receive a visit from a representative from Sizewell C Power Up. On the day, two classes of Year 8 students took part in a session on coding. During the session, students learned how to code and move a Sphero Bolt robot autonomously using an iPad as a controller. Students were set the challenge of creating the code that would successfully move their robots around challenge mazes.

In addition to working as part of a team and developing their own resilience, students learned about the technological applications of science, were able to test hypotheses, make measurements, and begin to understand the impact of STEM subjects on everyday life.

During its production, at its peak, Sizewell C is projected to employ approximately 8000 people, with at least 500 of these allocated to people from the Ipswich area. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn about careers in STEM and develop employability skills ready for when they enter the job market after leaving Westbourne.

Donations Welcome for Gardening Club

Mrs Ellis, who runs our Thrive gardening club, would like to reach out to anybody who may have unwanted, unused but usable items that they wish to donate to the school. The sort of things she has on her wish list are:

  • packets of seeds
  • old hanging baskets or cold metal or plastic colanders we can turn into hanging baskets
  • old unused non-cracked/broken ceramic plant pots of all sizes (smaller ones would be great for making bee hotels
  • large rectangular planters for growing vegetables like carrots
  • wooden spoons (small and large)  and plastic water bottles like 500ml and 2 litre size – to make bird feeders
  • old Wellies for turning into plant pots

For anybody who may be feeling especially generous this Christmas, Mrs Ellis has an Amazon wish list which you can find here:

Student Absence

Please ensure if your child is absent from the academy, that you have notified the attendance office at the earliest opportunity on each day they are not going to be in school, in order to prevent the automated text messages being sent or absence calls being made to parents/carers – these commence from 8.35am each day.

The ways in which you can contact the academy to inform us of student absence can be found on our website here.

Applying for Free School Meals

You can apply for free school meals online direct with Suffolk County Council. You will get an immediate response and confirmation email after you have completed your application. You will not be able to apply over the phone because you need to provide an email address, password and sign the declaration stating that you have parental responsibility.
