Weekly Bulletin for 27 June 2024

My Child at School App

If you haven’t already done so, please remember to download the My Child at School (MCAS) app on your mobile phone to ensure that you have all the information you need regarding your child’s performance at school.  This is how we will be communicating with parents moving forward.  Whilst we are using a combination of both systems at the moment, we will be transferring completely to MCAS in the next two weeks or so.  In case you haven’t already downloaded the app, please find the instructions attached.

WES MCAS Self Sign Up

Please be aware that we are working with a new management system and, as such, there may be some discrepancies as we implement the new process.  We will be working hard to ensure that these issues are ironed out next week, however, please bear with us as we are establishing this new approach.

Biometrics Opt-in

A reminder that if you have not already done so, please opt your child/children into the new biometrics system which will enable students to pay for items in the food hall using their fingerprint. This comes into effect on the first day of term in September and we will be capturing biometrics data for Years 7 to 10 in school on 4 July 2024. A copy of the email sent on 18 June can be found here:

Attendance Matters – “Attend today, achieve tomorrow”

Education is your passport to the future, and good attendance is the stamp that gets you there.”

The attached information sheet details updates to the way in which Penalty Notice Fines will be issued for unauthorised absence after 19 August 2024.

ATT Changes To FPN AUG2024

At Westbourne, we believe that school attendance is vitally important. Regular attendance links directly to pupil outcomes, which is why we work with families to ensure that all our pupils are supported to attend school regularly.

Westbourne Academy will always focus on a ‘support first model, by ensuring penalty notices are only considered where offered support is either not engaged with, not working or not appropriate.

Household Discretionary Support Fund

SCC have confirmed that the Government announced a six-month extension to the Household Support Fund from April to September 2024. This means that families who are in receipt of Free School Meals will receive a £90 supermarket voucher for each eligible child from their provider Pluxee. This is designed to help families with their essential living costs during the holiday. The vouchers will have a two-month expiry and cannot be reissued.

As with previous issues of vouchers, the SCC Free School Meals (FSM) team will place the voucher order using the information provided by your child’s school. Please ensure that we hold the most up to date contact information for you, so that the voucher is sent to the correct recipient.

If the school has previously printed the vouchers on your behalf, then this arrangement will continue. SCC aim to have all vouchers sent to recipients by Thursday 18 July 2024. If you have not received the vouchers by this date or in the event of any queries regarding the vouchers, then please contact the SCC FSM team at, rather than speaking to the school directly.

Please note, that if you have children who attend different Suffolk schools, you may receive your vouchers at separate times before the start of the school holiday.

Please look out for an email from, and please also check junk and spam folders before contacting SCC FSM team directly.

If you are financial struggling and require additional support, further information can be found at:

Family First Magazine

Family First was founded in 2017 with a simple mission: to empower parents and schools with the necessary resources to improve the well-being of children and young adults across the UK. By promoting a happier and healthier family lifestyle, Family First has achieved remarkable success since its inception. This success has attracted the attention and support of esteemed organisations such as Public Health England’s Change4Life, Mumsnet, Argos, ASDA, Sainsbury’s and many more, as well as prominent sports entities and leading family brands in the UK. Through these partnerships, Family First has been able to expand its reach to even more parents, encouraging them to reduce screen time, engage in physical activities, and adopt healthier eating habits.

In addition to their advocacy efforts, Family First now produces a complimentary magazine that is distributed to as many parents and schools as possible. This publication reaches an impressive audience of up to 7,000,000 parents with children aged 0-12 years. As a result, Family First has become the largest and most widely distributed family publication in the UK to date and the go-to title for some of the UK’s largest family brands.

While Family First initially focused on the health of children and young adults, their ultimate goal is to promote a healthier lifestyle for the entire family unit, including aunts, uncles, grandparents, and even great-grandparents.
