Weekly Bulletin for 19 April 2024

I would like to introduce you to Mr Richard Williams who has joined us at Westbourne in the role of Interim Executive Headteacher.

Mr Williams is a highly experienced education leader. He first became a Headteacher in 2002 and moved into the Multi Academy Trust world in 2010 working initially through a university-based MAT and then moved to one of the largest MATs nationally leading school interventions and then becoming a Regional Director supporting both primary and secondary academies. Following that he led a federation of large secondary schools and shared sixth form centre before becoming the Director of Education in another of the large national MATs. Since 2019 he has been the CEO of two Multi Academy Trusts.

Mr Williams has a long and successful track record in Headships and school improvement and  brings a lot of experience with him through working with a diverse range of secondary schools in a variety of settings and establishing effective partnerships to improve the education experience all children receive.

He has already met with a number of our students and has enjoyed his first week with us.

Praise and Reward Update

We are always looking for opportunities to praise and reward our students when they achieve great things.  Please see below for an update on their achievements and for details of rewards events happening in the summer term:

  • Every week, 5 lucky students are rewarded with a £20 gift card for perfect attendance, behaviour and punctuality in the previous week. In addition, many more receive weekly vouchers for free lunches, queue jumps for the Food Hall and cookies too!
  • Last term, 81 students were nominated by subject areas as Student of the Term – they received a letter of congratulations home, a certificate and a blazer badge
  • Friday 19 April, 222 students will be attending our 100% Club for having excellent attendance, behaviour and punctuality in Jan/Feb
  • Wednesday 1st May  – Friday 3rd May, 71students will be having a free early lunch for having 95%+ attendance and a completed STAR card in Feb/March

Attendance Update

  • So far this year, 498 of our students have an attendance percentage at 96% or above – this is almost half the school and a great achievement.
  • So far this year, 442 of our students have gone ‘one step further’ and have attendance of 97% or above – which is even more fantastic and to be acknowledged and celebrated
  • So far this year, 100 of our students have 100% attendance meaning they have not missed a single day of school since September. This is an absolutely phenomenal achievement – massive congratulations to them all!

Activities Day rewards trips are also taking place on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July. Please speak to your child about their preferred activity choices and return these using the link emailed on 15 April. A copy of the email can be found on our website Latest News page here:
