Virtual Year 9 Parent Evening – Thursday 24 June 2021

Online Appointments & Booking System

You and your child are invited to our Year 9 virtual parents’ evening which is being held on Thursday 24 June 2021 using a video call system. Your child should attend this evening with you.

Please note that you should only make appointments to talk with teachers of the options/pathways subjects that your child is taking in Year 10, as well as core subjects such as maths, English and Science.

For example, if your child is not taking Drama or PE BTEC or Music for example, then please do not make appointments with these subject staff.

You will not be able to make appointments with teachers of Business, Enterprise, Health & Social, Photography or Hospitality & Catering as these subjects are not taught in Year 9.

The parent’s evening will be hosted on an intuitive and easy-to-use online appointment booking system. You can view a video on how to log in to book and later attend, video appointments by following the link below:

This is new for everyone, due to the present restrictions in place, but we are excited that we are able to use technology to ensure this evening can still take place at this crucial time.

You will need the use of a device with a microphone and speakers/headphones such as a smartphone, laptop or computer with a webcam and a compatible up to date web browser:

• Apple iphone/ipad: there is a known issue joining video calls using iOS 14.2. Please upgrade any iOS 14.2 devices to iOS 14.3 or use another device.
• Android: Chrome or Firefox
• Windows: Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge (Chromium)
• Mac: Safari, Chrome or Firefox
• Linux: Chrome or Firefox

Using a headset or earphones with a microphone will reduce echo. When you have made your bookings, you will be able to invite one other parent or carer to access your video appointments in respect of the student linked to you for the parent evening. The other person will receive a video call invitation by email with a link to follow or paste into their browser.

The purpose of the evening is to give you the opportunity to ‘meet’ your child’s teachers to discuss what your child needs to do over the coming weeks to help them progress further in the subject and the arrangements for Teacher Assessed Grades.

The booking system allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and you will receive an email confirming your appointments – in the normal way. On the night, you will need to log in to the Parent Evening Booking System on your device and follow the instructions to be automatically connected to teachers at the appointed times.

Please make sure that if there are questions you want to ask, you do so early in the conversation, as each parent will have five minutes each and the system will cut off after this time and you will automatically be moved onto your next appointment.

Appointments can now be made and will close on Thursday 24 June at midday. Should you wish to make any changes after this time please contact us. To book your appointments please go to the PARENT/PARENT EVENINGS page on our website or follow the link here. If you have downloaded the My Ed app, you will find a link to the booking system on there too, under ‘My Students’.

If you have any difficulties please contact the school office (01473 466133/466132) who will be happy to help you further. If you do not have an email address, or if your current email address does not match the one that we have recorded for you on our database, then you will be unable to log in to the booking system. In this instance, please call us and we can make appointments for you and update your contact details.

We know that you will want to attend this very important event to discuss your child’s progress. We look forward to meeting with you on the evening and thank you for your continued support.
