Principal’s Bulletin – 5 January 2021

Emailed to all parents and carers

We write further to the recent communications detailed below:

We are sorry to be contacting you again so soon on this subject. However, as you may have seen, the Prime Minister has now announced a new national lockdown because of rising infection rates of Covid-19 and to try to prevent the further spread of the new virus strain.

As part of this, all primary schools, secondary schools and colleges in England are to be closed from today for in-person attendance, except for children of critical workers or vulnerable children (details are on our website news pages).

The Prime Minister also announced that ‘not all exams’ would go ahead as normal this year for our Year 11 students and that there would be alternative arrangements. He said the Government would set out further details on this at a later date, and when that information is announced, we will update those of you whose children are due to take exams this year.

At present the planned vocational exams for January are still going ahead.

From today:

For those of you eligible for in-person attendance, your child will either be taught by teaching assistants or will be supported to access the remote learning detailed below.

For those attending in person, we will be maintaining the approach to safe working and infection control that we have adopted throughout the pandemic. As this will include additional ventilation, we would advise those attending to ensure they bring a coat in addition to wearing full school uniform during this period of cold weather. Students will be required to face coverings in all their lessons.

For all other students, we will be offering remote learning provision – this is likely to be until Thursday 11 February, the end of this half-term – Friday 12 February is a staff PD day. High-quality remote learning will be provided to make sure our students continue to receive a consistent education. We know that this places pressure on you at a difficult time, but your support in helping your child engage as much as possible is so important and we are very grateful for it.

Each day, students will be expected to follow their timetable, detailed below, and they will receive work from their class teacher on Teams. Most of these lessons will be ‘live lessons’ with their class teacher on Microsoft Teams and it is expected that students attend all live lessons and complete the work set.

The lessons will take place at the following times:

Assembly:      08:40 – 08:50 (when these are scheduled)

Period 1:        08:55 – 09:40

Period 2:        09:55 – 10:40

Break:            10:40 – 11:10 – 30 mins

Period 3:        11:10 – 11:55

Period 4:        12:10 – 12:55

Lunch:           12:55 – 13:40 – 45 mins

Period 5:        13:40 – 14:25

They should also please ensure they check their school email every day.

Registers will be taken to confirm attendance and parents will be notified if their child does not attend a live lesson. In addition to this, we expect high standards of behaviour and any issues of unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with following normal school sanctions.

Free School Meal Support

The Government has today announced that schools and their catering providers will make food parcels available for collection by families who are eligible for FSM. Vouchers are not going to be issued by the Government as they were in March and throughout the summer holiday. Mrs Pepperill will be coordinating the food parcels and she will be in contact when they are available for collection next week. They will be supplied to cover a two week period and will be supplemented with groceries that we have been granted from the Food Share Scheme. Under the lockdown rules, people are permitted to leave their home to collect items from schools such as work packs, laptops and food parcels.

If you or anybody in your household is unwell with Covid-19 related symptoms or has tested positive and is isolating, please do not come to school to collect anything but arrange for somebody else to come on your behalf.

From next week, our Reception point will not be open every day and neither will the switchboard as staff will be in school on a rota system. Instead, you will need to ring the doorbell if you are collecting something and wait for assistance or email staff directly or email and your message will be forwarded.

ATT CEO Letter to parents and carers 4JAN21

PMG Schoolwear – Ipswich

The Managing Director of PMG Schoolwear has asked us to share the following information with our parents and carers.

In accordance with the government guidelines, PMG stores are viewed as non-essential.  The stores closed on Saturday 2 January 2021 and will not reopen fully until the restrictions are lifted again. The Ipswich shop will be open on Saturday and Wednesday mornings 10:00 – 13:00 for collecting any outstanding click and collect orders placed before Christmas but once all orders have been collected the shop will close completely.

The PMG Schoolwear website will however continue to be available throughout this period and their warehouse team will continue to despatch orders so there is absolutely no reason why parents cannot get hold of uniform should they need it. You can visit PMG’s website on the link below:

We will continue to stay in touch with you of course. However, do let us know if you require any support relating to these new arrangements. If you think you are missing any emails, please check your spam or junk folders. You can also check our website news pages because everything we send out by email to parents is also posted on our website.

If you have the My Ed app on your device, you can check under Message History to view any emails or in app messages sent to you via our automated system. There is also a quick link to our news pages and academy calendar. Only users with parental responsibility in our data management system will be able to view student details, timetables etc. For more information on downloading this free app please go to:

We would once again like to take this opportunity to thank you wholeheartedly for your understanding and ongoing support in helping us to manage this unprecedented situation. Please continue to take care and to stay safe.
