Creative iMedia Trip to Warner Bros Studios: Wed 5 January 2022

On 10 January 2022 [student name] is taking an exam in Pre-Production. The exam accounts for 25% of the overall grade for Creative iMedia. This trip will provide an opportunity to hear from professional people, about the different roles needed both in front of and behind the camera to make a successful film and about the different layers of design for the creative elements of filmmaking. There will also be a Warner Brothers studio tour about the making of Harry Potter.

I hope that this will bring what they have been learning to life and provide them with relevant examples that they can use in their exam. All students will need to bring a Covid mask (unless they are exempt and have an exemption lanyard).  As the trip is leaving at morning break, students will not need to wear their academy uniform to school for lesson 1, 2 or tutor time.  Students should still be appropriately dressed for this trip as they are ambassadors for the academy ie no crop tops, sleeveless tops or ripped jeans.

We will be travelling by coach, departing the academy at 10:40. We will depart from the studio at 19:00 and anticipate arriving back at the academy at approximately 21:30.  Arrangements will therefore need to be made for collecting your child at that time unless they are allowed to make their own way home from school. Below is our itinerary for this activity.

10:25     Students to report to Mr Burrows in the food hall

10:40     Depart from Westbourne Academy for onwards travel to destination by coach

13:00     Arrive at destination

13:10     Break for lunch (at the Chocolate Frog Café, the Hub Café or the Food Hall)

14:30     Lesson: From Script to Screen

15:30     Tour of the making of Harry Potter

18:45     Report to the trip leader Mr Burrows

19:00     Depart from venue for return travel to school by 21:30hrs

21:30     Approximate arrival back at school, students dismissed/collected by parents

Students will need to bring appropriate drinks and snacks for the duration of the trip and the journey. They will need spending money if they wish to buy souvenirs or visit the onsite food outlets at lunch. Students may bring their mobile phones to communicate with parents on the return journey and to take photographs at the studio. Any personal effects or valuables brought to school or brought on trips remain the responsibility of students if they are lost, stolen or damaged.

Visits play an important part in the learning of our students. We understand the financial demands placed on parents resulting from our school activities, which is why this trip has been subsidised in part the by academy.  A voluntary contribution of £33 is payable which covers the cost of admittance and transport.  Should we receive insufficient interest or contributions to make this trip financially viable, it will be cancelled.

We will be carrying a first aid kit and at least one member of staff accompanying the visit is a qualified first aider.  Any student who would normally receive a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch on the day provided this is ordered in advance.  This visit is fully covered by the academy’s insurance policy for educational visits and journeys (ZURICH Insurance).

In order for your child to participate in this trip, you will need to make payment online through your School Money account and complete the parental consent using our confidential MS Form consent form.  Follow this link to access the form:

https://forms.office.com/r/W05Dbzt9Lw

Payment should be made no later than 7 December 2021. You will see it appear on School Money in the next 24 hours.  Payment is required in full before the trip departs and by the deadline of 7 December 2021. If you do not have a School Money account, you can request one by emailing data@westbourne.attrust.org.uk.  Alternatively, your child should ask for a PayPoint bar code and printed consent form from Miss Green at the Finance Office window before school, at break or at lunch. This will allow you to pay in cash or by debit card at the local Coop.  We can no longer accept cash or cheque payments in school.

If you have any questions with regards to the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Regards

Mr Jonathan Burrows
