As of Friday 1st April, guidance for the next steps for living with COVID-19 has been updated. Furthermore, the Department for Education has confirmed:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting. Therefore, schools will no longer be able to order test kits on your behalf. As universal free testing has now finished, families will have to order and purchase these online or from a pharmacy. I am sorry to say that no advice has been offered about families who may struggle to afford to buy home test kits.

This means that:

  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can come back to the academy when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will now be 3 days
  • The requirement for two consecutive negative lateral flow tests has been removed
  • We will continue to ensure good ventilation and promote hand hygiene in school
  • The website will be updated with the advice at the bottom of this letter
  • Schools are no longer permitted to give LFD testing kits to students or staff
