Weekly Bulletin for 5 July 2024

We are nearly at the end of the academic year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students who acted as transition leaders for our new Year 7 cohort when they came up to spend time with us in school last week.  They represented themselves, and the academy brilliantly, and provided a great deal of support for the students they were linked to.

However, whilst the very large majority of our students are always doing the right thing, we do have a minority whose poor behaviour takes away from all the brilliant things the rest of our students do.  Over the past term, we have received complaints from local businesses, residents and even the workmen at the bottom of Marlow Road.

The issues that have been reported to us include kicking doors, swearing, stealing and dangerous behaviour. As well as this being extremely disappointing, it is also highly unacceptable and does not meet the standards we expect of our students whilst they are in the community.

As the summer holidays approach, I would ask parents to ensure that their child is safe and behaving as they should. As well as contacting ourselves, local residents, shopworkers and workmen will also be contacting the police in order to report any future inappropriate behaviour.

My Child at School App

If you haven’t already done so, please remember to download the My Child at School (MCAS) app on your mobile phone to ensure that you have all the information you need regarding your child’s attendance and performance at school.  This is how we will be communicating with parents moving forward.  Whilst we are using a combination of both systems at the moment, we will be transferring completely to MCAS in the next two weeks or so.  In case you haven’t already downloaded the app, please find the instructions on or website news page here:

Please be aware that we are working with a new management system and, as such, there may be some discrepancies as we implement the new process.  We will be working hard to ensure that these issues are ironed out next week, however, please bear with us as we are establishing this new approach.

Attendance Matters – “Attend today, achieve tomorrow”

Education is your passport to the future, and good attendance is the stamp that gets you there.”

The attached information sheet details updates to the way in which Penalty Notice Fines will be issued for unauthorised absence after 19 August 2024.

ATT FPN Attendance Factsheet AUG24

At Westbourne, we believe that school attendance is vitally important. Regular attendance links directly to pupil outcomes, which is why we work with families to ensure that all our pupils are supported to attend school regularly.

Westbourne Academy will always focus on a ‘support first’ model, by ensuring penalty notices are only considered where offered support is either not engaged with, not working or not appropriate.
