GCSE Exams in Home Languages

French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian & Turkish

I would like to introduce myself as the form tutor for our Home Languages group.  With the assistance of Mrs Lazar, I prepare students to take a GCSE in a language they speak at home, or used to speak when they were resident in a different country.  Students will take this GCSE in Year 10 (in May and June 2024).

The GCSE has four parts, each worth 25% of the total mark: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  During September to October, students have practised Listening, Reading and Writing and I now understand what they find easy and where they need support.  This half term, we will focus on preparation for the Speaking component.

If you would like to look at the type of exams students will take and perhaps do some extra study with them, you can go to the websites below.  In addition, students doing French and German have been given their own Grammar Book (unfortunately, this is not available in other languages).
